Governance and Transparency Policy

Explains how Map.ca makes platform decisions, changes rules, manages disputes, and publishes major policy updates.

Governance and Transparency is the meta-policy: how decisions are made, how rules change, how disputes are managed, and how major policy updates are communicated to the public. The doctrine requires that decisions affecting the public be made with documented rationale and a change log.

It applies to Map.ca leadership, to the policy-owning teams across the company, and to the public who relies on Map.ca’s predictability. The Policy Review and Versioning Policy operationalizes parts of this commitment.

Requirements

  • Publish a rationale and change log for every major policy update.
  • Surface disputes and outcomes publicly where the public interest justifies it.

Prohibitions

  • Do not change a policy silently.
  • Do not make platform-wide decisions without a documented decision record.
